Examples of Findings Resulting from the Diagnosis

The figures below show exemplary results from the UNCTAD SFT Self-Assessment Tool for three different application cases. The self-assessment questionnaire covers nine objectives in each of the three sustainability dimensions. The first figure shows the average scoring by sustainability dimension, the following figures the detailed results. Self-assessment users can download the figures for use in presentations or documents The scoring helps you identify the strengths and weaknesses of the existing freight transport systems that fall under your area of activity and enables you to align your SFT strategy accordingly. In the self-assessment, progress is rated for each objective on a qualitative scale from “Strongly Deteriorated” to “Strongly Improved.”

Sustainability Triangle

International Freight Corridor
Example of an international freight corridor where greater emphasis is placed on the economic dimension rather than on the environmental aspect.
Dedicated Railway Freight Corridor
Example of a dedicated railway freight corridor where high emphasis is put on the economic and some elements of the environmental dimension. In this case, there is a strong adverse impact on biodiversity and habitat.
City
Example of the performance of urban freight in a city located in a developing country. In this case, limited focus is put on several environmental and social aspects of freight transport.
